Lawndale: I lost my entire deposit and was evicted even though I had always paid my rent.
“I lived in my in home for 5 years, and every month I paid my rent by electronic transfer. When my landlord went into foreclosure he tried various tactics to evict me and move in to get cash-for-keys offer. He tried to do an owner move-in in October by giving me a 30 day notice when I was owed 60 days. He demanded he would only accept the rent via check, and gave us tenants a new address every month to send it to. I kept paying rent electronically and my landlord accepted the rent, but turned around and gave me a 3-day-nonpayment notice anyway, claiming I didn’t pay it properly. Even though I had paid my rent I had to defend an Unlawful Detainer case. It was so stressful that I just settled out of court to give up my $1000 security deposit. I lost my entire deposit and was evicted even though I had always paid my rent.”
